Half Game of Thrones, half real Dubrovnik history — because the story of the Republic of Ragusa is just as dramatic as anything in Westeros. Filming locations and the true stories behind these walls, all in 90 minutes.
Dubrovnik wasn’t picked as King’s Landing by accident. This city has its own history of political scheming, naval power, and survival against the odds — the Republic of Ragusa held its own for centuries while empires rose and fell around it. On this tour, you get both: the Game of Thrones filming locations and the real stories that make Dubrovnik feel like it was always meant to be King’s Landing.
Your guide walks you through the Old Town, stopping at the key spots from the show — but instead of just telling you what happened on screen, they’ll tell you what actually happened here. The same walls, the same gates, the same staircase — different drama, equally wild.
It’s a 90-minute walk that gives you both worlds. If you love GoT but also want to understand why this city looks the way it does and how it survived for 450 years as an independent republic, this is the tour for you.
We meet at the Large Onofrio’s Fountain, just inside Pile Gate. Look for the guide with the red umbrella. Please arrive 10 minutes before your departure time.
Our first stop overlooks the bay where the Battle of the Blackwater unfolded — wildfire, ships, and all. Standing here, you can picture the green flames lighting up the water. Your guide breaks down exactly how they filmed it and what the bay really looked like on set.
The main entrance to the Old Town doubled as King’s Landing’s city gate in multiple scenes — from the infamous riot where Joffrey was pelted with dung, to the beach below where the Gold Cloaks carried out the massacre of Robert Baratheon’s bastard sons. One gate, two of the show’s most brutal moments.
Walk the main limestone street and hidden alleyways where dozens of King’s Landing scenes were filmed throughout the series.
The medieval column of the legendary knight Orlando stands guard in front of the Church of St. Blaise — for centuries it served as Dubrovnik’s flag-bearer and official unit of measure. In Game of Thrones, this square doubled as the heart of King’s Landing, appearing in numerous street scenes throughout the series.
A stunning blend of Gothic and Renaissance architecture, Sponza Palace is one of the few buildings to survive the devastating 1667 earthquake. Originally a customs house and mint, it now holds the city’s archives. Its elegant arcade and courtyard have appeared as a backdrop in several King’s Landing scenes.
Dedicated to Dubrovnik’s patron saint and protector, this baroque masterpiece sits at the heart of the Old Town. Saint Blaise — or Sveti Vlaho — has watched over the city since the 10th century. The church holds a golden statue of the saint cradling a model of medieval Dubrovnik in his hands.
The stunning Gothic-Renaissance palace that served as the exterior of the Spice King’s Palace in Qarth. We admire its famous façade and ornate columns from the outside — a filming location most visitors walk right past without realising.
The baroque Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built after the 1667 earthquake destroyed the original Romanesque church — legend says the first cathedral was funded by Richard the Lionheart himself. Inside you’ll find paintings attributed to Titian and a treasury filled with gold relics, including the skull of Saint Blaise.
Stand where Cersei made her infamous Walk of Atonement. The baroque staircase inspired by Rome’s Spanish Steps became one of the most iconic filming locations in TV history.
